ComparisonsBackpack vs Panda

Backpack vs Panda comes down to one question: should the tool run on its own servers, or on your computer? Both are Chrome extensions for Skool community owners, and both send welcome and failed-payment messages and schedule posts. We make Backpack, so read this knowing that. Every fact below was checked on each tool's own pages on 29 September 2026.

Panda ($37 a month on its Skool page) runs in your browser, keeps its CRM data on your device, never collects your logins and covers unlimited communities. Its FAQ says to leave your computer on. Backpack ($9 a month, every Skool community you admin) runs on our servers and works with your computer off, because it stores your Skool session, encrypted.

The real difference: your computer or our servers

A Chrome extension only runs while Chrome is open. A tool that messages members for you either works inside your browser or on a server that acts as you. Panda and Backpack chose opposite sides.

Panda: the work stays with you

Panda calls itself "the Skool CRM" and runs in a side panel in your browser. Its FAQ says your CRM, pipelines, tags, notes and drafts "stay on your device". There is an optional auto-backup to a folder you pick: Google Drive, iCloud, OneDrive, Dropbox or a folder on your computer. Its Skool page says "your logins are never collected."

The cost is that your computer does the work. Panda's FAQ says it needs a desktop or laptop to run, and that you can leave your computer on at home while Panda handles the heavy lifting. Its pages do not say more than that, so we will not guess past it. Panda also "supports one active session at a time", so you use it on one computer at once.

Backpack: the work happens on our servers

Backpack is a Chrome extension plus our servers, which do the sending and posting. When a card fails at 3am, your sequence starts within the hour, laptop shut or not. To act for you with your browser closed, Backpack stores your Skool session. It is encrypted at rest, and the key is held separately from the database.

That session is used for three things only: reading the member list and payment state of each community you switch on, sending the messages you wrote to its members, and posting what you scheduled there. Backpack never asks for your Skool password and never stores one. You can revoke the session at any time by disconnecting Skool or emailing us, and it is deleted when you do.

Panda asks you to keep a computer on. Backpack asks you to trust our servers with your Skool session. Choose the one you would rather give.

What each one does

Failed payments

Skool already retries a declined card on its own and marks the member "Declined", per its help article on card declines. Both tools add a direct message on top. Panda's Skool page lists "auto DMs for welcomes, failed payments, and more", and its FAQ mentions card-decline alerts with a permanent history. Backpack's Payment Recovery starts within an hour of the failed payment, sends a short sequence you write with gaps you set, and stops once the member pays. It sends from your own Skool account, as a normal DM. More in our guide to Skool failed payments.

Welcomes and cancellations

Both send welcome messages. Panda's FAQ says its DM automations can change the message by tier and level. Backpack's Welcome Drip sends your welcome within an hour of someone joining, then follow-ups spaced how you like. Backpack also has Cancellation Recovery, which fires when a member cancels and stops if they resubscribe. Panda's pages say "and more" but do not name cancellations.

Scheduled posts

Both schedule posts. Panda's FAQ says its scheduled posts can include polls and GIFs. Backpack's Post Scheduler posts at the time you pick, from our servers, and you can edit or cancel a post until it goes out.

Claude or ChatGPT

Backpack lets you connect your own Claude or ChatGPT with one link. You can then ask about your members and your recovery sequences, or have it write posts and put them in your schedule. It cannot send DMs or change the messages you wrote. Backpack itself uses no AI: you write every message. Panda's pages do not list a way to connect Claude or ChatGPT. More on connecting Claude or ChatGPT to Skool.

Everything else Panda does

This is where Panda does much more. Its Skool page and FAQ list a CRM with engagement scores and sales pipelines, a task board, personal video and voice notes with no monthly cap, a net profit view with revenue forecasting, a referral leaderboard, a calendar across all your communities, and privacy modes for screen-sharing. Panda is built by Claudio Campobassi, who offers ops support on its Skool page, and the FAQ says Premium includes weekly live coaching sessions and priority async support. Backpack has none of these extras. It does five jobs: Payment Recovery, Cancellation Recovery, Welcome Drip, the Post Scheduler and connecting your AI.

Price

Backpack is $9 a month with every feature, for every Skool community you admin. Panda's Skool page shows $37 a month, while the FAQ on its own site says $36 for Premium, so check the Skool page when you join. Both have a 7-day free trial and bill through Skool.

Backpack costs $28 a month less at Panda's Skool page price. The gap stays the same as you add communities, because one plan of either covers them all.

Where Panda is the better pick

  • You want financials for each of several communities. One Panda plan covers unlimited communities, with separate automations and financials for each.
  • You do not want your Skool session on anyone's server. Panda keeps its data on your device and says your logins are never collected.
  • You want a full CRM. Pipelines, engagement scores, a task board and a profit view, none of which Backpack has.
  • You want a person to help you run things. Its maker offers ops support, and its FAQ lists weekly live coaching on Premium.
  • You already leave a computer on at home. Then Panda's trade-off asks nothing new of you.

Where Backpack is the better pick

If you are weighing Backpack as a Panda for Skool alternative, these are the reasons to switch.

  • You want follow-ups to go out with your computer off. Backpack sends and posts from our servers: overnight, on a flight, with your laptop shut.
  • You want cancellation messages. Cancellation Recovery is built in. Panda's pages do not list it.
  • You want to use Claude or ChatGPT with your community. It is included in the $9. Panda's pages do not list it.
  • You want to pay less. $9 a month against $37, for one community or several.

Which one fits your community

  1. Decide the trade first: a computer left on (Panda), or your Skool session stored, encrypted, on a server (Backpack).
  2. Use the free trial, and run one tool at a time.

If you are still choosing between more tools, our Skool Chrome extensions comparison covers SkoolKit, Skooly, Skoot and Wingman too. Backpack vs Panda is not a question of which is better. It is where you want the work to happen. If the answer is our servers, with your computer off, try Backpack free for 7 days.

FAQ

Does my computer need to stay on for Panda to work?

Panda's FAQ says it needs a desktop or laptop to run, and that you can leave your computer on at home while it handles the work. Its pages do not say what happens to automations while the computer is off. Backpack runs on our servers, so it keeps working with your computer shut.

Where does Panda keep my data?

On your device. Panda's FAQ says your CRM, pipelines, tags, notes and drafts stay on your device, with an optional auto-backup to a folder you choose. Backpack keeps its data on our servers, including your Skool session, encrypted with the key held separately.

Does Backpack need my Skool password?

No. Backpack never asks for your Skool password and never stores one. It stores your Skool session, encrypted at rest, and uses it only to read the member list and payment state of each community you switch on, send your messages and post what you scheduled. Revoke it any time and it is deleted.

Can I use Panda or Backpack for more than one community?

Panda, yes: its FAQ says one plan works across unlimited communities, with separate automations and financials for each. Backpack, yes too: one $9 plan covers every Skool community you admin, with no limit on members. You connect Skool once, then switch each community on from that community's page.

What is the price difference between Backpack and Panda?

Backpack is $9 a month and Panda is $37 a month on its Skool page, so Backpack costs $28 a month less. Panda's own FAQ says $36, so check when you join. Both have a 7-day free trial, and both bill through Skool, where you cancel.

Can I run Panda and Backpack at the same time?

You can install both, but Panda's FAQ recommends switching off other Skool extensions that do CRM or DM automation while you use Panda, because running them together can cause conflicts. Two tools messaging the same member about the same failed card would also mean double messages. Pick one tool per job.
