ComparisonsBackpack vs SkoolKit

Backpack vs SkoolKit is a choice between one price for everything and a price for each tool. Both are Chrome extensions with servers behind them, made for people who already run a Skool community. Both message members whose card fails, members who cancel and members who just joined, and both schedule posts, with your computer off. We make Backpack, so read this knowing that. Every SkoolKit fact below comes from SkoolKit's own site and its Skool page, checked on 29 September 2026.

SkoolKit prices by the tool: $2 a month for one, $6 for any three, $17 for all eight, across as many communities as you like. Backpack is $9 a month for every feature, in every Skool community you admin. SkoolKit fits one or two jobs. Backpack fits owners who want follow-up messages, scheduled posts and Claude or ChatGPT.

What each one is

SkoolKit lists eight tools, all live today: Post Scheduler, Payment Recovery, Auto DMs, Churn Hero (for members who cancel), Member Lens, Classroom Organiser, Voice Messages and Inbox Champion. You choose which tools sit on your plan. SkoolKit is made by Sentient Mind Ltd and says it is not affiliated with Skool.

Backpack does five things: Payment Recovery, Cancellation Recovery, Welcome Drip, a Post Scheduler, and MCP, which connects your own Claude or ChatGPT. There are no tiers. You write every message and Backpack sends it from your own Skool account. It is not affiliated with Skool either.

What you pay for the jobs you need

SkoolKit counts each job as its own tool. Backpack puts every job in one plan. So the cheaper one depends on how many jobs you want done.

  • One job, such as failed payments only: SkoolKit Standard is $2 a month. Backpack is $9. SkoolKit costs less.
  • Any three jobs: SkoolKit Premium is $6 a month. Backpack is $9. SkoolKit costs less.
  • All four shared jobs (failed payments, cancellations, welcomes and scheduled posts): that is four SkoolKit tools, so you need VIP at $17 a month. Backpack is $9 and also includes Claude or ChatGPT. Backpack costs less.
  • Paying yearly: SkoolKit's yearly plans are $20, $60 and $170 (two months free, it says). Backpack lists a monthly price only, so $108 over twelve months. That is less than VIP's $170, but more than Premium's $60.
  • Two or more communities: one SkoolKit plan covers them all. One Backpack plan covers every Skool community you admin. So the prices above do not change.

Two more things about SkoolKit's plans. Every tier is marked "Founding member price, ending soon", so check the price on the day you join. And Standard "can swap once a month". SkoolKit's FAQ says your first pick is free to correct, but after that a change locks your selection for 30 days.

How the four shared jobs compare

Failed payments

SkoolKit's Payment Recovery scans your member list "every 15 minutes" and sends "an escalating 3-message sequence", spaced out and never during a member's night. A dashboard shows who recovered. Backpack starts within an hour of the failed payment, sends a short sequence with the gaps you set, and stops once the payment goes through. So SkoolKit says it checks more often. Both send a normal DM from your own Skool account. For what Skool does on its own when a card fails, see our guide to Skool failed payments.

Cancellations

SkoolKit's Churn Hero sends a rescue message while the cancelling member still has access. If they still leave, it asks one short question, why, before access ends. Backpack's Cancellation Recovery fires when a member cancels, sends your messages spaced however you choose, and stops if they resubscribe. An exit survey is not part of Backpack.

Welcome messages

SkoolKit's Auto DMs send your welcome message, "or a full multi-day drip", when someone joins. The same tool also messages members who comment or like, and on a trial turning paid, a level up or a tier change. With the Voice Messages tool, you can record the welcome in your own voice. Backpack's Welcome Drip sends your welcome within an hour of someone joining, then a check-in a few days later, with {first_name} filled in. Backpack's messages start on three things only: a failed payment, a cancellation and a new member.

Scheduled posts

SkoolKit puts a Schedule button next to Skool's "Go Live" button, with a drag-and-drop calendar in month, week and day views. It lists images, video, YouTube and link previews. Backpack's scheduler takes a title, body and category, and you pick the day and time in your own time zone. You can edit or cancel a post until it goes out. Both publish from their servers with your laptop shut. More in how to schedule posts on Skool.

Your computer, and your Skool session

Here the two are close. A Chrome extension on its own stops when Chrome closes. To send a message at 3am, both keep your signed-in Skool session on their servers, encrypted. Neither asks for your Skool password.

SkoolKit's privacy policy says it stores "Your Skool session for a community you admin", "encrypted at rest". Its FAQ says it is used only for the tools you switch on, and you can revoke each community from the extension popup. You also make a separate SkoolKit login with its own email and password.

Backpack stores your Skool session. It is encrypted at rest, and the key is kept apart from the database. Our privacy policy limits it to three uses: reading the member list and payment state of each community you switch on, sending the messages you wrote, and posting what you scheduled. Revoke it any time by disconnecting Skool or emailing us, and it is deleted. Our Skool Chrome extensions comparison shows how the other tools handle this.

Where SkoolKit is the better pick

  • You only need one to three jobs. $2 a month buys one tool and $6 buys any three.
  • You want tools Backpack does not have. Member Lens (a ring and tier tag on the members paying you most, as you browse), Classroom Organiser (moving lessons between classrooms), Voice Messages, Inbox Champion (your DMs and notifications run like email), comment and like triggers, and an exit survey.
  • You want to pay yearly. SkoolKit has yearly plans. Backpack lists a monthly price only.
  • You want to install from the Chrome Web Store today. SkoolKit is listed there. Backpack is not yet.

Where Backpack is the better pick

  • You need all four shared jobs. On SkoolKit that is the $17 VIP plan. Backpack does all four for $9.
  • You want Claude or ChatGPT connected to your community. Ask your own AI who failed a payment this week, or have it write a post and schedule it. It cannot send DMs. This is not listed on SkoolKit's pages. See how to connect Claude or ChatGPT to Skool.
  • You want one price and nothing to pick. Every feature is on, and there is no tool choice to lock for 30 days.
  • You want a free trial. Backpack is 7 days free. A SkoolKit free trial is not listed on their pages.

So Backpack vs SkoolKit comes down to counting. If you only want one tool, SkoolKit costs less. If you want a SkoolKit alternative because you need every job, in one community or several, that is what Backpack is built for, and you can try Backpack free for 7 days.

FAQ

Is Backpack cheaper than SkoolKit?

SkoolKit is cheaper for one to three jobs, and Backpack is cheaper for all four. SkoolKit charges $2 a month for one tool and $6 for any three. Failed payment, cancellation and welcome messages plus scheduled posts are four SkoolKit tools, so that needs VIP at $17. Backpack does all four for $9.

Do Backpack and SkoolKit work when my computer is off?

Yes, both do. SkoolKit's FAQ says the work happens on its servers once a community is connected, so posts publish and DMs send with your laptop closed. Backpack also sends and posts from its servers. To do this, both store your signed-in Skool session, encrypted, and act as you inside Skool.

Do Backpack or SkoolKit need my Skool password?

No. SkoolKit's FAQ says "we never ask for it", and Backpack never asks for or stores your Skool password. Both use your signed-in Skool session instead, stored encrypted on their servers. You can revoke it any time: in SkoolKit's extension popup, or by disconnecting your community in Backpack or emailing us.

Can I use Backpack or SkoolKit for more than one community?

SkoolKit, yes: one plan connects as many communities as you like at no extra cost, as long as they come from the same Skool account. Backpack, yes too: one $9 plan covers every Skool community you admin, with no limit on members. You connect Skool once, then switch each community on from that community's page.

Does SkoolKit connect to Claude or ChatGPT?

Connecting Claude or ChatGPT is not listed on SkoolKit's pages as of 29 September 2026. Backpack includes it on the $9 plan through MCP: paste one link into your own Claude or ChatGPT, sign in with your email, then ask about your members or have it write and schedule posts. It cannot send DMs.

Is there a free trial of Backpack or SkoolKit?

Backpack is free for 7 days, then $9 a month, and you cancel on Skool at skool.com/backpack. A SkoolKit free trial is not listed on their pages. Its cheapest plan is $2 a month for one tool, billed through Skool as a SkoolKit community membership, and you cancel or switch plans in Skool.
