ComparisonsBackpack vs Tools4Skool

Backpack vs Tools4Skool comes down to price and scope: Backpack is $9 a month for five jobs, and Tools4Skool starts at $39 a month with a bigger toolkit. We make Backpack, so read this knowing that. Both are Chrome extensions that message your Skool members from your own account. Every Tools4Skool fact below comes from its own website, its Chrome Web Store listing and its privacy policy, checked on 29 September 2026.

Backpack is $9 a month for every Skool community you admin and covers failed payment, cancellation and welcome messages, scheduled posts and a Claude or ChatGPT connection. Tools4Skool costs $39 to $249 a month for 1 to 10 Skool groups, also lists a CRM, an inbox and bulk messages, and puts its cancellation Churn Saver on the $89 Pro plan.

Price: what $9 and $39 get you

Backpack has one plan: $9 a month with every feature, for every Skool community you admin, with no limit on members and 7 days free.

Tools4Skool's homepage lists three monthly plans:

  • Starter, $39 a month: 25 DMs a day, 1 Skool group, welcome and follow-up sequences, a CRM pipeline and member export.
  • Pro, $89 a month: 75 DMs a day, 3 Skool groups, Churn Saver and risk scores, image DMs and unlimited sequences.
  • Agency, $249 a month: 300 DMs a day, 10 Skool groups, 5 team seats, and everything in Pro plus API access.

Its Skoot comparison page mentions a 7-day free trial with no card needed. The homepage table shows no free plan and no yearly price. A few of its guide pages print different prices and a free plan, so check the homepage before you buy.

For one community, the gap is $30 a month against Starter, or $80 against Pro if you want its cancellation saves.

Failed payments, cancellations and welcomes

Skool already retries a declined card on its own, marks the member "Declined", and lets you see the retries and retry by hand (Skool's help article). These tools add a direct message on top.

Tools4Skool

Tools4Skool builds messages as sequences. Its store listing gives five triggers: a new member joins, a member cancels, you add a tag, a member goes inactive for a set number of days, or you add someone by hand. Its Churn Saver, on Pro and Agency, sends your save message when a member cancels. The homepage says it lands within 60 seconds; the store listing says within minutes.

Failed payments are the gap. Neither the homepage nor the store listing names a failed payment trigger. One guide page says the Churn Saver also fires on a failed payment, so if that is the job you need, ask Tools4Skool before you pay.

Backpack

Backpack does three versions of this. Payment Recovery starts within an hour of a failed payment and stops once the member pays. Cancellation Recovery fires when a member cancels and stops if they resubscribe. Welcome Drip sends your welcome within an hour of someone joining, then a check-in a few days later. You write every message, and Backpack sends exactly what you wrote from your own Skool account. More on this job: what to do when a Skool payment fails.

Post scheduling

Tools4Skool shows post scheduling in a homepage video: queue a post for 9am, then auto-DM everyone who comments. Its pages do not say which plan includes it.

Backpack's Post Scheduler lets you write the title, body and category, pick a day and time in your own time zone, and edit or cancel the post until it goes out. It posts from our servers, so your laptop can be shut. See our guide to scheduling Skool posts.

Connecting Claude or ChatGPT

Tools4Skool has a homepage video, "Connect Skool to Claude (MCP)", where you ask Claude who is at risk. Its pages name Claude only and do not say which plan includes it. Agency also lists API access.

On Backpack, connecting your own Claude or ChatGPT is part of the $9 plan. You paste one link and sign in with your email. Then you can ask who failed a payment this week, or have it write a post and schedule it. It cannot send DMs or change the messages you wrote. Here is how connecting Claude or ChatGPT to Skool works.

Where each one runs, and your Skool session

Tools4Skool is a side panel that runs inside skool.com, and its homepage says it never needs your Skool password. Its privacy policy, last updated April 2026, says that when you connect, it collects your email and your Skool session cookies, stores the cookies encrypted in its database, and uses them to make requests to Skool on your behalf. It adds that the extension does not run in the background. Its pages do not say in plain words whether sequences keep sending with your computer off, so ask if that matters to you. Its store listing declares that it handles authentication information and personal communications.

Backpack runs with your computer off. To do that, it stores your Skool session, encrypted at rest, with the key held apart from the database. It uses it for three things only: reading the members and payment state of each community you switch on, sending the messages you wrote, and posting what you scheduled. It never stores your Skool password, and the session is deleted when you revoke access. The detail is in our privacy policy.

So both tools store your Skool session, encrypted. Read each privacy policy before you connect.

Where Tools4Skool is the better pick

Tools4Skool is the better pick for a bigger toolkit. It lists things Backpack does not have:

  • A CRM: a five-stage pipeline, tags and private notes on members.
  • An inbox with Unread and Need Reply filters, and slash commands to tag, note or move a member from a reply.
  • Bulk messages, keyword alerts on posts, and image DMs on Pro.
  • More sequence triggers, such as a tag you add or a member who goes quiet.
  • Churn risk scores, a weekly summary and a member CSV export.
  • Five team seats and API access on Agency.
  • A listing on the Chrome Web Store today.

If you want to work members like leads, Tools4Skool does that and Backpack does not.

Where Backpack is the better pick

Backpack is the better pick if you need the core jobs for less. It is a Tools4Skool alternative for owners who:

  • Want a listed failed payment message, not just cancellations.
  • Want payment, cancellation and welcome messages plus scheduled posts for $9 a month, with no upgrade for cancellations.
  • Want Claude or ChatGPT connected without picking a tier.
  • Want a tool that says plainly it runs with the computer off.
  • Want to write every message themselves, with no AI inside the tool.

Know the limits. Backpack only works in communities you admin, has no CRM, inbox or bulk messages, is not on the Chrome Web Store yet, and is not made by or affiliated with Skool.

Which one to choose

Start with the job. For failed payments, cancellations, welcomes, scheduled posts and your own AI, Backpack covers all of it for $9, in every Skool community you admin. For a CRM, an inbox or bulk messages, Tools4Skool has them and Backpack does not. That is the real Backpack vs Tools4Skool split. For more tools, see our Skool Chrome extensions comparison. FAQ

Is Backpack cheaper than Tools4Skool?

Yes. Backpack is $9 a month with every feature, including failed payment and cancellation messages. Tools4Skool's plans are $39, $89 and $249 a month, and its Churn Saver for cancellations starts on the $89 Pro plan. Neither tool lists a yearly price on its pages.

Does Tools4Skool message members whose payment fails?

Not on its main product pages. Its homepage and Chrome Web Store listing name no failed payment trigger, only a new member, a cancellation, a tag, inactivity and adding someone by hand. One guide page says its Churn Saver also fires on a failed payment, so ask Tools4Skool to confirm. Backpack's Payment Recovery does this.

Do Backpack and Tools4Skool work when my computer is off?

Backpack does. It sends from its servers, using your Skool session, stored encrypted. Tools4Skool's pages do not say plainly. Its privacy policy says it stores your Skool session cookies, encrypted, to make requests to Skool for you, and that the extension does not run in the background. Ask them.

Can I use one plan for more than one Skool community?

On Tools4Skool, yes: Starter covers 1 Skool group, Pro covers 3 and Agency covers 10. On Backpack, yes: one $9 plan covers every Skool community you admin, with no limit on members. For three communities that is still $9, against Tools4Skool Pro at $89.

Does Tools4Skool have a free trial?

Its Skoot comparison page mentions a 7-day free trial with no card needed, and its sign-up page says creating an account is free. The homepage price table shows only three paid plans, while some guide pages print a free plan, so check before you buy. Backpack is free for 7 days.

Is Backpack on the Chrome Web Store like Tools4Skool?

Not yet. Tools4Skool is listed on the Chrome Web Store today. You join Backpack through its community at skool.com/backpack, where Skool takes the $9 monthly payment and where you cancel. Uninstalling the extension does not cancel anything or stop billing, so cancel your membership there when you want to stop.
