Skool Discovery is the directory where people browse and search for Skool communities, and it is the one place on Skool where strangers can find your group for free. This guide covers how to get listed on Skool Discovery, how Skool ranks groups, how the new search and keywords work, and what you can change this week to show up higher. Every Skool fact here was checked against Skool's help centre and skool.com on 29 September 2026.

Skool Discovery is Skool's directory and search at skool.com/discovery. To be listed, add a cover image, group description and About page, write a post and invite members. Skool ranks groups by member growth, activity and retention, and its search reads your keywords, group description and About page, so use the words your members would type.

What Skool Discovery is

Go to skool.com/discovery and you see a Trending page, nine categories (Hobbies, Music, Money, Spirituality, Tech, Health, Sports, Self-improvement and Relationships), a search bar and a Filter button. Each group shows as a card with its cover image, name, one-line description, member count, star rating and price.

Discovery is part of what Skool calls the Skool network. Its traffic sources article says a member counts as "Skool network" when they find you through Discovery, the recommended groups sidebar or Skool's paid ads. In Skool News #55 (5 May 2026), Skool's team said the platform brings about 30% of new members to groups, and that search makes up about 70% of that.

Skool's own YouTube show has covered Discovery all year: Skool News #40, "How Skool Gives You Members" (6 January 2026), Skool News #52, "NEW Discovery Is Coming" (7 April 2026), keywords in #53 and the new search in #55.

How to get listed on Skool Discovery

A new group shows as UNLISTED until it clears a minimum bar. Skool's article on why a group is not visible lists five things:

  1. Set up the cover image.
  2. Add a group description.
  3. Complete the group About page.
  4. Write a post.
  5. Invite members.

Skool's team then reviews the group. That article says it usually gets listed within an hour. The Discovery FAQ says within two hours. Either way, it is fast once you meet the bar.

The help centre does not say how many members you need. In #55, Skool's team showed a new Discovery checklist inside group settings that tells an unlisted group what is missing, and it asked for about three members besides the owner. Two more details from Skool's About page article: the About page must be complete to be eligible, and links in the About page description do not work, so leave them out.

How Skool Discovery ranks groups

Skool's article on ranking higher says groups are ranked per category on three things:

  • Member growth: new members joining.
  • Member activity: posts, comments and likes.
  • Retention: members who keep coming back over time.

Skool says retention matters most. New groups rank lower and rise as they age. Removing inactive or level 1 members does not help, because some people like to lurk.

The Discovery FAQ adds that a human reviews rankings and applies boosts and penalties. The boosts it lists are high-quality artwork and About page, an interesting niche, authentic human engagement, and an active owner and admins. Penalties include low-quality artwork or About page, low-quality engagement, payments taken off Skool, bad customer support and an inactive owner.

What the videos add

In #55, Skool's team said the new Trending page would stop rewarding engagement for its own sake, so random posts made only to look busy would no longer help. The help centre still lists activity as a factor, so real activity counts. Filler does not.

In Skool News #73 (8 September 2026), Skool's team said Trending used to lean towards cheap $9 groups and had been rebalanced towards higher prices, and that it will keep changing. Their advice: do not change your price just to match what is trending this week.

Two more things move your place. Skool's ranking article says leaving Growth Boost on gives higher visibility and placement in search. And its reviews article says groups with the highest organic ratings benefit from Growth Boost. Only recurring paying members can leave a review, after 30 days in the group.

How Skool Discovery search works

Skool shipped a new Discovery search in #55. Skool's team showed it catching typos, finding creators by name and finding a group by its exact name. They said it reads three things:

  • your Discovery keywords
  • your group description
  • the text on your About page

So the words you use matter. If your About page says "dough" and "bread" but never "sourdough", a person searching for sourdough has less to match on. In #73, Skool's team also said Discovery now detects each visitor's language and shows groups in it.

How to set Discovery keywords

Skool added keywords in Skool News #53 (14 April 2026). We could not find a help article for them, so these steps are from the video:

Introducing Keywords for Discovery | Skool News #53, Skool News on YouTube, 14 Apr 2026
  1. Open your group SETTINGS.
  2. Go to the Discovery tab.
  3. Type a keyword, then press Enter or a comma to add the next one. You can add up to 11.

How Skool's team said to pick them: start with the topics your group is about, then think like a stranger typing into search. Add your own name if people search for you. Add the other words for the same thing, like "Facebook ads" and "Meta ads". Add the type of business or hobby, then a few broader topics. Your group's categories are a fair starting list.

Do not add popular words that do not fit. Skool's team was clear that an unrelated keyword only hurts you: the system files your group under the wrong topic, and the people who want your real topic cannot find it.

Example: a sourdough baking groupWhy
sourdough, sourdough starterThe main thing people type
bread baking, artisan breadOther words for the same thing
your namePeople who already follow you
home baking, bakingBroader topics the group sits in
AI, make money onlineDo not add. Popular, but not what the group is

The example is ours, not Skool's.

Your cover image, card and About page

Skool's team calls these your "packaging", and returned to them in almost every Growth Boost episode. Your card is the first thing a searcher sees. It is also what Skool shows in its ads, so it has to make sense to a stranger scrolling past.

  • Cover image: Skool's team compared it to a YouTube thumbnail. A stranger should know what the group is about at a glance.
  • Name and description: say who it is for and what they get, in plain words.
  • About page: Skool's article calls it a landing and checkout page. Add what members get, an explainer video and what members say.

To see what works in your niche, Skool's team suggested this in Skool News #62: open Discovery, click your category, and set the filter to paid groups in your language. In #73 they added that every category page is a trending list for that category, not just the main Trending page.

Discovery rewards groups that are clear, active and worth staying in. There is no keyword trick that replaces those three.

Keep the group active without living in it

Skool's Discovery FAQ lists an active owner and admins as a ranking boost, and an inactive owner as a penalty. Its ranking article counts posts, comments and likes. The honest way to meet that is real posts on a steady rhythm, not filler, since low-quality engagement is on the penalty list too.

The hard part is the rhythm. Backpack has a Post Scheduler: write the week's posts in one sitting, pick the category, day and time, and Backpack posts each one from your own Skool account, even with your laptop shut. You can edit or cancel a post until it goes out. Backpack is a Chrome extension plus our servers, $9 a month for every Skool community you admin, with every feature, and it is not made by or affiliated with Skool. Try Backpack free for 7 days, or see our guide on how to schedule Skool posts.

Skool Discovery is not a one-time setup. Finish the checklist, set honest keywords, make your card clear to a stranger, and keep the group alive. If you also run trials, our guide to the Skool free trial covers how trial numbers feed into Growth Boost.

FAQ

Why isn't my group showing on Skool Discovery?

Your group is probably still UNLISTED because it has not met Skool's minimum bar. Skool's help centre lists a cover image, a group description, a completed About page, at least one post and invited members. Once you meet it, Skool's team reviews the group, and Skool says it is usually listed within an hour or two.

How do I rank higher on Skool Discovery?

Grow your membership, keep members active and, above all, keep them coming back. Skool ranks groups per category on member growth, activity and retention, and a human applies boosts for good artwork, an interesting niche, real engagement and an active owner. Skool also says leaving Growth Boost on gives higher placement in search.

How many keywords can I add on Skool Discovery?

Up to 11. Skool showed this in Skool News #53, where keywords are set in your group settings under the Discovery tab. Use words your ideal member would type, including other names for the same thing. Skool's team warned that adding popular but unrelated words only hurts, because search files your group under the wrong topic.

Does removing inactive members help my Discovery rank?

No. Skool's help centre says removing inactive or level 1 members does not improve your rank, because some people like to lurk. Retention matters more: Skool says the more members keep coming back to engage, the higher your group ranks. Focus on giving current members a reason to return rather than trimming the list.

Does Growth Boost affect my Skool Discovery ranking?

Yes. Skool's help centre says leaving Growth Boost on gives your group higher visibility and placement in search results. Growth Boost is on by default. In return, Skool takes a 30% commission on members it brings you, from every payment while they stay, so check the cost before you decide to keep it on.

How long does it take for a new group to appear on Discovery?

Usually within an hour or two of meeting the minimum bar. Skool's visibility article says within an hour after its team reviews the group, and its Discovery FAQ says within two hours. New groups start lower in the rankings and rise as they age, so expect your place to change over the first months.
