You change your Skool group URL from the General tab in your group's settings, and only on the Pro plan. This guide shows how to change your Skool URL step by step, which plan you need, what a second change costs, what happens to your old link, and what to check before you claim a new one. Every fact was checked against Skool's help centre and pricing page on 3 October 2026.

Click SETTINGS in your Skool group, open the General tab and click CLAIM URL. Type the URL you want and, if it is available, claim it. Custom URLs are only on the Pro plan, which is $99 a month. Your first change is included. Each change after that costs $100, and Skool says it is non-refundable.

How do you change your Skool URL?

These are the steps from Skool's help article, How to change my group URL? Its screenshots show the web version of Skool.

  1. Click the SETTINGS button in your community.
  2. Click the General tab, then click CLAIM URL.
  3. Type the URL you want. Skool tells you if it is available. If it is, click CLAIM URL to secure it.
  4. If you are not on a paid account yet, Skool asks you to upgrade first. Click UPGRADE NOW.
  5. Click CHANGE URL to confirm. Skool says your group URL is upgraded instantly.

Every group starts with a temporary URL. In the screenshots in Skool's article, it looks like skool.com/sk-helpdocs-community-9837: words from the group name and a number. The box for your new URL starts with skool.com/ and counts up to 30 characters.

Which Skool plan do you need for a custom URL?

The Pro plan. Skool's help article opens with "This feature is only available on the Pro plan." Skool's pricing page agrees: the Hobby card ($9 a month) shows an X next to Custom URL, and the Pro card ($99 a month) ticks it.

The free trial does not get you one either. Both plans start with a 14-day free trial, and a screenshot in the help article shows an "Upgrade to claim custom URL" box: you can only claim a custom URL with a paid account. Our Skool free trial guide covers how the trial works.

If the URL is your only reason for Pro, weigh the rest too. Pro has a lower transaction fee: 2.9% against 10% on Hobby. Our Skool pricing guide sets out the full difference.

How much does it cost to change your Skool URL again?

$100 each time. The help article says the first change is included at no additional cost, and "if you want to change your URL again in the future, it costs $100 per change." Its screenshots show a Change URL link under your current URL in the General tab, then a box asking "Change URL for $100?" before you are charged. Skool's help centre also says a URL change on Pro is a one-time purchase and non-refundable. So a typo costs $100 to fix.

Can you change your Skool community name?

Skool's help centre does not cover it. It has an article on changing the group URL, the web address, but none on changing the group name, the title people see. So there are no Skool steps we can point you to, and this guide covers the URL only. To ask about the name, see how to contact Skool support.

What happens to your old Skool link?

Skool says it redirects it. The Custom URL box, as shown in Skool's help article, says: "We redirect your old URL to the new URL." So people who click an old link are sent to the new address.

Downgrading is the exception. Skool's warning when you downgrade from Pro to Hobby, shown in its article on changing plans, says you will lose your custom URL, that it will be available for others to claim, and that "All links to your custom URL will fail." Skool's help centre also says the custom URL stays active as long as your Pro plan is active.

What to check before you change your Skool URL

  • Pick one you will keep. The first change is included and the next is $100. Check the spelling before you click CHANGE URL.
  • List every place your old link lives. Social bios, your website, emails, link-in-bio pages, ads, and posts or lessons that link to your group. Update each one, starting with ads you pay for.
  • Link straight to the new address. Skool's traffic sources article says redirects, link-in-bio tools and URL shorteners strip traffic sources and show up as direct, and tells you to use your About page link directly. So point your updated links at the new About page.
  • Check Zapier. Skool's Zapier guides ask for the back half of your group URL when you connect, and name it as one of two things to confirm when a Zap has problems. Test your Zaps after the change. More in our Skool Zapier guide.
  • Tell your members. Post the new link in your group.
  • Think about your plan. If you might drop to Hobby later, the custom URL goes with Pro.

Welcome the members your new link brings in

A custom URL is usually part of a push for members. The work starts when they join. Skool's AutoDM plugin, a Pro feature, sends one message you write to each new member within 1 to 5 minutes of joining, and skips anyone you already have a conversation with.

Backpack is a Chrome extension plus our servers that adds more. Welcome Drip sends welcome messages to new members, Payment Recovery messages a member when their card fails, and Cancellation Recovery messages a member who cancels. You write the messages and Backpack sends them, even with your computer off. It costs $9 a month for every Skool community you admin, with 7 days free, and it is not affiliated with Skool.

So that is how to change your Skool URL: be on Pro, open SETTINGS, then General, then CLAIM URL. The first one is included, so choose a URL you are happy to keep, because the next one costs $100.

FAQ

Can you change your Skool URL for free?

Once, if you are on Pro. Skool's help article says the first change is included at no additional cost, but custom URLs are only on the Pro plan, at $99 a month. Every change after the first costs $100, and Skool's help centre says that charge is non-refundable. Hobby groups cannot claim a custom URL.

Can you change your Skool community name?

Skool's help centre does not cover it. It has an article on changing your group URL, which is the web address, but none on changing the group name, so there are no Skool steps we can point you to. If you need help with the name, contact Skool support and ask them directly.

Does Skool redirect your old URL?

Skool says it does. The Custom URL box in Skool's settings, shown in its help article, says "We redirect your old URL to the new URL." Downgrading is different. Skool's downgrade warning says you lose your custom URL, others can claim it, and all links to your custom URL will fail.

What happens to your custom URL if you downgrade to Hobby?

You lose it. Skool's downgrade warning says your custom URL will be available for others to claim and that all links to it will fail. Skool's help centre says the custom URL stays active as long as your Pro plan is active. Weigh that before you click DOWNGRADE.

Can you claim a custom Skool URL during the free trial?

No. A screenshot in Skool's help article shows an "Upgrade to claim custom URL" box that says you can only claim a custom URL with a paid account, with an UPGRADE NOW button. Both Skool plans start with a 14-day free trial, so to claim your URL early you upgrade to a paid Pro plan first.
