To change your payment method on Skool, add the new card first, then move your memberships to it and remove the old one. Removing a card has one catch: Skool's help centre says a paid member has to cancel and leave the group before the card can come off. The steps below come from Skool's help articles, checked on 12 October 2026.
On Skool, click your profile picture, then Settings, then Payment methods, and click ADD CARD. The three dots menu on a card lets you move your subscriptions to another card or remove it. To take your card off while you pay for a group, Skool says to cancel that membership and exit the group first.
Where do you change your payment method on Skool?
In your account settings, on the Payment methods page. These steps are from Skool's help article How to update my payment method:
- Click your profile picture in the top right, then click Settings.
- In the menu on the left, click Payment methods.
- Click ADD CARD and enter your new card.
- Once the card is added, click the three dots menu on a card. From there you can remove that payment method or transfer your subscriptions to a different card on file.
These are the website steps. Skool's article has none for the app, so if you cannot find Payment methods there, use a web browser.
How do you move your Skool memberships to a new card?
Add the new card, then open the old card's three dots menu and transfer your subscriptions to the new one. You do not need to cancel anything to swap cards. Then use the same menu to remove the old card. If Skool will not let you, read the next section. Either way, you pay in US dollars: Skool's payments FAQ says "Members pay in USD."
Why can't you remove a payment method on Skool?
If you pay for a Skool group, Skool's help centre says you must cancel that membership and exit the group before you can remove your card. From How to remove my card (paid members):
- Click SETTINGS in the community you are in. In the app, slide the top menu across to find it.
- Click Manage membership and cancel your paid membership.
- Once it is canceled, you will see the option to exit the group. Exit it.
- Go to Payment Methods and click Remove on the card.
Canceling on its own keeps you in the group until your billing cycle ends, and Skool suggests canceling at least 24 hours before the next charge. Exiting is the extra step the card article adds. If you paid the owner outside Skool, Skool says to contact the group's admins before you leave. Our guide on how to cancel a Skool subscription covers every way to cancel.
Only want a different card? Skip all this and transfer your subscriptions to the new card instead.
What payment methods does Skool accept?
Skool's help centre recommends Visa, MasterCard or Amex cards, and says prepaid cards are not supported. Both lines are in its article on credit card declines.
| Payment type | What Skool's help centre says (12 Oct 2026) |
|---|---|
| Visa, MasterCard, Amex | Recommended |
| Other bank-issued cards | Not all are supported, because most Skool charges are recurring |
| Prepaid cards | Not supported |
| PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay | Not listed as a way for members to pay on any help page we found |
We searched Skool's help centre for PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay on 12 October 2026. PayPal only came up in the refunds article, as an outside way for owners to pay a member back.
Why does Skool decline my new card?
Most of the reasons Skool lists start at your bank. Skool says it does not get detailed decline reasons from banks, so calling your bank is often the quickest fix. What its declines article suggests:
- Generic decline. Check the card number, expiry date, CVC and zip or postal code. Some banks block online or international charges by default, so ask yours.
- Security check failed. Finish your bank's 3D Secure prompt without closing the page. Allow pop-ups, turn off ad blockers and any VPN, or try a private window.
- Do not honor. Ask your card issuer to allow the charge from the SKOOL merchant. If you pay from outside the US, ask them to allow foreign charges too.
- Insufficient funds. Check your balance or credit limit. A pending charge from another shop counts against your limit.
- Card velocity exceeded. You hit a limit on the card. Skool suggests trying again in 24 hours.
- Invalid account. The card or its account is closed. Add a different card.
Skool also suggests trying a card from a different bank. For problems that are not about the card, see how to contact Skool support.
How do you see what Skool has charged you?
Go to Settings, then Payment history, and click a month. The receipt opens in a new tab. To keep a copy, print it and save it as a PDF. If you found a charge on your statement and are not sure what it is, read our guide to the P.SKOOL.COM charge.
How do owners change the card that pays for their Skool group?
In the group's billing settings, not your member settings. From Skool's help article How to update payment info (admins only):
- Click the SETTINGS button in your community.
- Open the Billing tab and click Update payment method.
Skool says the new card is charged from the next billing cycle. In the app, scroll the settings menu sideways to reach the Billing tab. An admin you make a Billing Manager can also update billing details for the group.
What can owners do when a member's card fails?
A failed card is a payment you did not collect. Skool does help here. The member gets a red "Declined" label. You can open the declined invoice to see why it failed, how many times Skool has retried out of the total, and a way to retry the charge yourself. The member sees the error too, with a prompt to update their payment method.
Backpack adds a personal follow-up on top of that. Payment Recovery messages the member when their card fails, in your own words. It sends from our servers, so it works with your computer off. It costs $9 a month with 7 days free, and Backpack is not affiliated with Skool. Our guide to failed payments on Skool goes deeper.
The short version
To change your payment method on Skool, add the new card under Settings, then Payment methods, transfer your subscriptions to it, and remove the old card. If you want no card on Skool at all, cancel each paid membership and exit the group first.
FAQ
Can I pay for Skool with PayPal?
Not as far as Skool's help centre shows. On 12 October 2026 we found no Skool help page listing PayPal for members. Skool recommends Visa, MasterCard or Amex cards and says prepaid cards are not supported. PayPal only came up in the refund article, as an outside way for owners to pay a member back.
Why won't Skool let me remove my card?
Skool's help centre gives one route for paid members: cancel the membership, exit the group, then remove the card under Payment Methods. If you only want a different card, add the new one and transfer your subscriptions to it instead of canceling.
Does removing my card cancel my Skool membership?
No. Skool's help centre has it the other way round: you cancel the paid membership first, exit the group, then remove the card. To stop being charged, cancel each membership under the group's SETTINGS, then Manage membership. Canceling keeps you in the group until the end of your billing cycle.
Does Skool accept prepaid cards?
No. Skool's article on card declines says prepaid cards are not supported. It also says that because most Skool charges are recurring, not every bank card works, and it recommends Visa, MasterCard or Amex. If a card keeps failing, Skool suggests trying one from a different bank.
Why was my new card declined on Skool?
Often the block is at your bank. Check the card number, expiry, CVC and postal code, and finish any 3D Secure prompt with pop-up and ad blockers off. Skool says it does not get detailed decline reasons from banks, so call your bank, and ask it to allow foreign charges if you are outside the US.
How do I change the card for my own Skool group?
Click SETTINGS in your community, open the Billing tab and click Update payment method. Skool says the new card is charged from the next billing cycle. This is separate from your member payment methods, which only cover groups you pay to join. In the app, scroll the settings menu sideways to find Billing.
